Discovery Museum: Traveling Workshop

March 20, 2025

Recently, both the Lower and Upper Elementary students participated in an engaging in-house field trip through the Discovery Museum’s Traveling Science Workshop, enhancing their hands-on learning experiences. The Lower Elementary students dove into the fascinating world of dinosaurs during their workshop, where they acted as paleontologists. They identified and used various tools to excavate fossils from a mock dig site, deepening their understanding of fossilization and the Timeline of Life. By comparing the bodies of different dinosaurs and examining the similarities and differences between parent and offspring, they explored concepts of heredity and variation.

Meanwhile, the Upper Elementary students collaborated in teams to explore the principles of levers. They experienced mechanical advantage firsthand, engineering their own levers. This hands-on activity not only reinforced their recent studies but also provided an exciting opportunity to see physics in action, enhancing their understanding of work and force while fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills. Both workshops sparked curiosity and enthusiasm, making complex scientific concepts more accessible and engaging. The students left with a deeper appreciation for hands-on learning and the wonders of science.
